Application of EDTMPS in pulp bleaching process
In the pulp bleaching process, EDTMPS is mainly used as a chelating agent to raove or control metal ions in the pulp, especially transition metal ions such as iron and manganese. These metal ions catalyze the decomposition of bleaching agents (e.g. hydrogen peroxide), which reduces bleaching efficiency and may lead to yellowing of the paper.
Application effect
Improve bleaching efficiency: EDTMPS reduces the decomposition of bleaching agents by chelating metal ions, thus improving bleaching efficiency.
Improve paper quality: Raoval of metal ions reduces yellowing of paper and improves whiteness and brightness of paper.
Extend equipment life: EDTMPS also prevents metal ions from corroding equipment and extends equipment life.
Environmental performance: EDTMPS has good biodegradability and is friendly to the environment.
Usage
Timing of addition: EDTMPS is usually added in the pre-bleaching p in order to fully chelate the metal ions in the pulp.
Dosage: The dosage of EDTMPS is determined according to the content of metal ions in the pulp and the desired chelating effect. The general recommended dosage is 0.1% to 1.0% (based on dry pulp weight).
pH Adjustment: Maintaining a proper pH will help EDTMPS to optimize its chelating effect. A pH value between 7.0 and 9.0 is usually recommended.
